We are pleased to bring you a self-guided walk around some of Hedgemead Park’s most notable trees. The trail takes in 28 trees, including four ‘County Champions’, two ‘Remarkable’ trees and two ‘Notables’ as listed by the Tree Register of Britain & Ireland. The interactive map below illustrates the tree trail route and the location of each tree in sequence.
As you walk the trail, look out for the descriptive tags fixed to the trunk of each tree. If you have a smartphone handy, you can scan the tag’s ‘QR Code’. This will load a page with further information on that tree. Alternatively, click on the tree number on the map below – the map contains hotspots corresponding to each tree.
To entertain your children, we’ve hidden things in ten of the trees. Can you spot them? Some are obvious, others harder to find.
The Tree Trail starts and ends at the Friends of Hedgemead Park notice board, in the area below the bandstand. Enjoy the walk!

UPDATE Jan 2025: Another loss. Tree 9 (Weeping Ash) has been felled by the Council’s Tree Team. In common with many species in the genus Fraxinus, this tree had succumbed to Ash dieback disease and was considered to be past a threshold of safety in a public park.
UPDATE Nov 2021: Sadly, Tree 21 (Holm Oak) is no more. Diseased roots caused this majestic tree to fall on 24th October 2021 and, after clearance by the Council’s Tree Team, all that remains is its huge trunk.
