Repairs to Park’s Infrastructure

Anyone who uses Hedgemead Park cannot fail to have noticed the much-needed repair work that has started on its Victorian infrastructure. Several paths have been closed off temporarily to allow the Council’s contractors, SK-Conservation, to do its work.

These important repairs are the latest phase of works on two of the park’s Grade 2 Listed structures, the Victorian bastion tower and the entrance gates and railings at the park’s Margaret’s Hill entrance.

A survey of retaining walls commissioned by the Council in November 2021 recommended that the bastion tower was in need of repairs to the external stonework and pointing. This is what’s happening now.

When this is complete, the contractor will move to the other end of the park to start the work at the Margaret’s Hill entrance.
