New Benches Arrive

OK, park benches may not excite many people but we at the Friends of Hedgemead Park can get quite animated about these items of infrastructure. They’re a good indicator of how well a park is being looked after.

So, imagine our joy this week to find two sturdy new benches installed adjacent to the bandstand. The ever-resourceful Parks Team at B&NES have found some budget for a procurement this financial year and placed the benches at locations that have been empty for many years. These ones are much more elegant than other ‘utilitarian’ benches in Hedgemead Park; they’re made with good quality cast iron side pieces and hardwood slats for the seat and back rest. Well done to the Parks Team!

Having established a benchmark (ouch!), we now need aim high and, over time, replace all other benches with ones of this style.
