A large tree fell over in the early hours of 23rd December 2019 adjacent to Hedgemead Park’s Coalbrookdale Gate. Fortunately nobody was hurt thanks to the timing but it could have been a very different story if it had fallen a few hours later.
The tree completely blocked The Paragon for several hours and the B&NES Tree Team was quickly on the scene to cut up and remove the huge trunk and branches.
Considerable damage has been sustained by the park’s beautiful Victorian railings and supporting wall and to the residential building opposite.
The tree is thought to be an unusual species called Ailanthus Altissima, common name ‘Tree of Heaven’.
We hope to keep you posted in the New Year on work to restore the wall and railings to its former glory.
