Volunteer Gardening Resumes
by Graham · Published · Updated
In line with the Government’s road map out of Covid lockdown, the Council’s Parks Dept has given us the go-ahead to resume Volunteer Gardening activities from 29th March, subject to general and Covid-specific safety protocols.
So, we’ve published a schedule of gardening dates for the Spring and Summer months taking us through to September. The pattern is two sessions per month taking in the first Sunday and a Thursday around mid-month.
- Thursday, 15th April
- Sunday, 2nd May
- Thursday, 20th May
- Sunday, 6th June
- Thursday, 17th June
- Sunday, 4th July
- Thursday, 15th July
- Sunday, 1st August
- Thursday, 12th August
- Sunday, 5th September
Why not come and join us for one or more of these dates? Assembling at the bandstand, all sessions are about 2 hours long, starting at 10 am.
The work mostly involves keeping the park tidy; so, lots of weeding, pruning, keeping walls tidy and sweeping up tree debris. We’re also cultivating various wildflower areas. Later this year we’ll be starting an interesting planting initiative below the Battlement & Tower.
To keep everyone Covid-safe, we ask that you bring your own gloves, tools, hand sanitiser and perhaps some water to drink.
We recommend, at minimum, a pair of secateurs and a trowel. If you have a spade or a rake, all the better. Please do not share tools with others unless you are from the same household.
The schedule is, of course, weather dependent. If we need to call off a session, we’ll display a notice in the Friends notice board in the park. Any questions, please message us via the form on the Contact page of our website: www.hedgemead.org/contact
