Wildflower Power
One of HPF’s key goals is to encourage wildlife and biodiversity in Hedgemead Park. And we’ve really nailed it this year!
Some of you may know that our gardening volunteers have been developing two areas of wildflower planting. There’s a lovely strip of meadow near the London Street entrance and four roundels in the area below HPF’s notice board.
We’re very excited to report that these areas have really taken off this Summer. They’re astonishing to behold, full of colourful flowers and covered with all manner of bees and other invertebrates. Flower species include:
- Field scabious
- Musk mallow
- Tufted vetch
- Corncockle
- Foxglove
- Knapweed
- Ox-eye daisy
- Yellow rattle
- Bird’s-foot trefoil
- Cowslip
- Lady’s bedstraw
- Viper’s-bugloss
- White & Red campion
- Wild carrot
- Yarrow
- Harebell
