Despite the battering of three powerful storms in February, Hedgemead Park has thankfully escaped relatively unscathed. Let’s hope it remains that way!
Although it’s difficult not to worry about these events and their increasing severity, the seasons continue to unfold undaunted. Hedgemead Park is reawakening from its short slumber. Colour is starting to return as the early rising Spring flowers make their appearance.
If you’re a regular visitor, you can’t have missed the Hellebores, Snowdrops, Crocuses, Primroses and Daffoldils, all bursting out into the light. It’s such a time of hope.
Of course, Spring is also when our feathered friends start to check out possible nesting sites. So, to help them along, the Friends have installed a couple of very superior RSPB-supplied nest boxes in two locations around the park. See if you can spot them.
The boxes are suitable for several small bird species and have been sited in accordance with RSPB advice. Although it’s possible they may not be used this year, we’ll be keeping a hopeful eye out for any activity over the next month or so.
